Since
our beginning over a decade ago, we have presented all of our products via
the web only. Our no printed catalog policy has helped saved countless
trees, the emissions caused by the delivery of catalogs, and the
landfill waste created by their eventual disposal.
Printed
pages to be discarded are kept to use the blank back side for scrap paper.
Old
phone directories are recycled.
Refrigerated
tap water is provided to employees so that bottled water does not need to
be purchased.
All
training documents are kept for reference in computer files rather than
being printed.
All
daily communication memos are sent to staff via email rather than being
printed.
Employees
have been hired that live within a 10 minute drive, eliminating long commutes and the
resulting emissions.
Ink
toner usage is reduced by setting the default print mode on the office
printer to "low resolution."
Multiple
live green plants are used to decorate the office.
Whenever
possible, emails
are saved in Outlook folders rather than printed.
Toner
and paper are saved by setting our fax machine to not print a report sheet
with each successful fax.
Most
cardboard boxes received from suppliers are kept and reused for packing,
shipping and even Christmas presents at year end.
Desks/workstations
used the most hours each day are situated next to windows to maximize use
of natural light.
All light bulbs in desk lamps have been switched to compact fluorescent. The
card stock used for the postcards we mail customers is made of 100%
post-consumer recycled material, is FSC certified, processed chlorine
free, and produced using Green e-certified renewable energy. Printer
ink cartridges are refilled rather than being purchased new. Computer
monitors are turned off when each person leaves his or her desk for the
day. All
computers are set to hibernate in the evening. Computer
backups are done on a USB drive and online rather than on disposable CD's. All
used batteries are turned in for recycling rather being disposed of in
regular garbage. Screened
windows and doors are opened to provide ventilation and natural cooling
whenever temperatures permit.
